Nike Sues Over Lil Nas X ‘Satan Shoes’ Following Social Media Uproar

After rapper Little Nas X collaborated with label MSCHF on ‘Satan Shoes’, 666 custom pairs of Nike sneakers with human blood in the shoe’s air bubble, Nike announced their intention to sue.

Nike told Entertainment Weekly that it had “filed a trademark infringement and dilution complaint against MSCHF today related to the Satan Shoes.”

“We don’t have any further details to share on pending legal matters. However, we can tell you we do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF. The Satan Shoes were produced without Nike’s approval or authorization, and Nike is in no way connected with this project.”

Lil Nas X was not named in the lawsuit, rather the case is against MSCHF, who Nike claim infringed and diluted their trademark by producing the shoes.

The lawsuit said, “there is already evidence of significant confusion and dilution occurring in the marketplace, including calls to boycott Nike in response to the launch of MSCHF’s Satan Shoes based on the mistaken belief that Nike has authorized or approved this product,”

The shoes sold out in less than a minute after they were released on Monday. The final, 666th pair is still available to win in a competition that the rapper announced on his Twitter. Users can quote tweet his post with the hashtag #satanshoes to enter.

The original tweet has  36,000 quote tweets.

However, the shoes have also received some backlash on Twitter, which the rapper responded to in turn.

Lil Nas X also tweeted about the lawsuit.
