Jeep Forced To Pull Bruce Springsteen Ad After Drink Driving Charges Are Revealed

In a career that has spanned the best part of five decades, Bruce Springsteen had never done an ad ever.

That was until this week, when the legendary musician fronted Jeep’s Super Bowl ad. In the two-minute video, Springsteen is shown behind the wheel of a a 1980 Jeep CJ-5, which according to reports, is owned by Springsteen himself.

In addition to appearing in the ad for Jeep, Springsteen composed and produced an original score, while also narrating.

And while Jeep was widely applauded for securing the talents of Springsteen – who has previously been described as “not for sale” when it comes to appearing in ads – the campaign has quickly backfired.

Shortly after the ad was sent live, revelations of Springsteen being charged with drunken driving last November came to light.

The New York Times revealed he was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area while driving through the Gateway National Recreation Area.

Springsteen clearly did not disclose the charges prior to the ad being aired, leaving Jeep with a PR mess to clean up.

As a result, the automobile company has decided to pull the ad.

“It would be inappropriate for us to comment on the details of a matter we have only read about and we cannot substantiate,” a spokesperson for Jeep said in a statement.

“But it’s also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the actual facts can be established. Its message of community and unity is as relevant as ever. As is the message that drinking and driving can never be condoned.”

The ad, however, can still be found widely across the internet, including on Springsteen’s Twitter page.
