11,000 Rolling Stone Australia readers have had their say as to what is the greatest film ever released, and the results are in.

Taking place in October, the Rolling Stone Australia Readers Poll gave its community of movie-lovers the chance to help curate a list of the greatest movies, whether it be some of the most acclaimed movies to have ever graced the screens at the Academy Awards, or a film so overlooked and forgotten that the nominating reader would be surprised if anyone else has even seen it.

olling Stone Australia collaborated with the Australian Home Entertainment Distributors Association (AHEDA), and Slingshot Media to promote the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time Poll.

Using the slogan ‘Never lose access to your favourite movies’, the campaign encouraged readers to look back into their 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, or VHS collections, and cast their minds back to those seminal movie moments, and pick out some of the greatest films of all time.

Rolling Stone Australia built a dedicated online voting hub and promoted the Poll through the various channels of its parent company The Brag Media.

Epic Digital also contributed to the campaign. Epic’s advertising network managed a collaboration with a number of publishers to amplify the campaign through social, media and a range of content.

Joel King, Commercial Lead at The Brag Media, said: “The success of this campaign showcases The Brag Media’s ability to interpret our clients’ objectives and deliver conversions while engaging our channel audiences with brand content they are eager to participate in.

The results from 11,000 voters were revealed on Monday, with seminal 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption topping the list. The film, which was initially considered a dud at the box office upon release, is considered one of the most beloved films ever made, and is now crowned as the number one Greatest Movie of All Time.

Elsewhere in the Top 10 are seminal cinematic heavy-hitters like Titantic, Gone With The Wind, Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump. The latter was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in the United States National Film Registry in 2011, as it was named “culturally, historically, or aesthetically” significant.

Poppy Reid, The Brag Media’s Managing Editor, said: “We were so thrilled to have over 11,000 readers vote in the 100 Greatest Movies of All Time Readers Poll as it’s so important for us to maintain a connection with our community during this time. The film industry as a whole has taken a massive hit, and our intention to highlight 100 global cinematic masterpieces has been made even more special thanks to the keen involvement of our readers.”
