Studio 10 Issues Apology Over “Offensive” Lawrence Mooney Interview
Network 10’s Studio 10 has issued an apology to viewers after comedian Lawrence Mooney took a swipe at some of the industry’s biggest names.
In a segment acting as “Sydney’s meanest TV critic, Rudi Vanderstone”, Mooney called Studio 10 the “place on television where careers can go to die”, while also describing Married At First Sight as “real estate agents and beauticians falling in love under the auspices of alcohol to rub their skin together.”
He also went on to refer to breakfast television as a place for “slut-shaming and casual racism”.
Studio 10 host Joe Hildebrand asked “Rudi”: “So what do you think of our show Rudi? What do you think of Studio 10?”
Lawrence replied: “Well I thought you’d never ask. It’s great that there’s a place on television where careers go to die.
“As a Dutchman, I love to settle down in the morning with a cup of coffee to watch some sl*t shaming and casual racism.”
Hildebrand clearly found the joke funny, while co-host Natarsha Belling was left visibly shocked by Mooney’s gag.
Following a commercial break, Hildebrand and Belling issued and apology over Mooney’s comments.
“We just need to apologise for our viewers for the offensive language in that last segment,” Belling said.
“For everything, in fact!” said Hildebrand.
Twitter was divided over the segment.
I find it rich @Studio10au are offended by Lawrence Mooney's comments this morning but are fine with literally everything racist and disgusting that comes out of the mouths of Joe Hildebrand and Kerri-Anne Kennerley. #Studio10
