Meet The Women Leading Tech: EML Payments CEO Rachelle St Ledger

With over 20 years’ experience in the global fin-tech sector, EML Payments CEO Rachelle St Ledger has helped largely evolve and grow the prepaid industry in Australia and the UK.

Having worked on the launch of the first Australian gift card with Coles Myer before moving to the UK to work ~10 years for a start up fin tech prepaid issuer and processor, St Ledger returned to Australia in 2016 to take on the role of CEO of EML Payments Australia.

EML Australia has 50 fulltime staff employees across development, infrastructure, operations, commercial, risk and finance.

During 2018 and 2019, the EML Australian team focused on the creation and launch of mobile payments.  This included further integrations with Mastercard as well as securing the certification of ApplePay, Samsung Pay & Google Pay.

The company internally launched an instant gift solution at the end of 2018 before rolling out several client programs in 2019.

With goal of helping to improve people’s lives, EML’s solutions offer clients and their customers innovative ways to pay, manage their money with enhanced control, help millenials save and provide credit products for tech-savvy users.

The launch of these products allowed St Ledger and her team to win several new clients.

2019 also saw EML Australia announced an 8-year agreement with Smartgroup and a 5-year agreement with NSW Health and ACT Government for its salary packaging product.

In addition to innovation, St Ledger is most proud of employee engagement scores which had a 98 per cent participation rate and 81 per cent favourable result, 11 per cent higher than the fin tech benchmark.

St Ledger values diversity across gender, age, nationality and ensure an inclusive culture at all times including recruitment, succession planning and by holding events including weekly company wide communications, local employee reward initiatives, several departments getting involved in key pitches, ping pong Fridays participating in community charitable events and regular companywide functions – ensuring a #oneteam #openness and #awesomeness (….all EML values) culture.
