NOUS Donates ‘Despite All The weirdness’ TVC To Help Cancer Council Queensland

With the world so intensely focused on COVID-19 right now, public awareness and sentiment for those in the midst of their own battle with cancer had dropped off markedly.

Recognising the difficult challenge this presents to organisations like Cancer Council Queensland — whose ongoing work is invaluable and essential — NOUS decided to try and help out.

NOUS has worked closely with Cancer Council Queensland for a number of years, and so approached them with an idea for a television commercial to help raise awareness, remind people of their great work, and maybe be a bit playful too. They were onboard straight away.

Cancer Council Queensland Public Relations and Social Media Manager, Rhys Reynolds said, “NOUS contacted us and said they’d been thinking about how tough things are for everyone — they had an idea that they wanted to pitch to us. So that’s how it kicked off and we couldn’t be happier.”

NOUS wrote and created the ad and garnered the help of a local animator and sound engineer. Featuring a voiceover by Dave McCormack, known as the voice of Bandit on the ABC’s Bluey. Chris Raes helped organise the spots to get it to air, kindly donated by Seven West Media.

“We knew that producing a spot reminding people about cancer right now wasn’t going to be easy —people everywhere are dealing with their own issues — we just wanted to make something worthwhile, relatable and ultimately helpful in the current climate,” said Brian Hastings, Managing Director, NOUS. “We had access to some space and we knew that donating this to Cancer Council Queensland was the best thing we could do with it. Getting the ad right was a huge challenge, but it hits the mark and the client is really happy.”

Rhys Reynolds said, “This spot is vital in helping us to continue to help those with cancer, through these unprecedented times. Most of us will be touched by cancer in some form throughout our lives. We can’t thank NOUS enough for their help.”
