Chip Maker Shells Out Staggering $17 Million For Mariah Carey To Front Christmas Ad

When you think Christmas, you probably don’t think Mariah Carey.

And why would you? Well, because Mariah lays claim to the most downloaded Christmas song in history – her version of All I Want for Christmas Is You reportedly selling a massive 3.2 million copies at last count.

Because of the song’s success, the English still seem to think the the seemingly ageless 49-year-old is as festive as overcooked Brussel sprouts and the Queen’s Christmas message.

Enter a new Chrissie campaign for the Pepsico-owned crisp range in the UK, Walkers, with none other than Mariah singing and joking her way to salt and vinegar festive cheer.

And according to media reports, Mariah didn’t come cheap to reprise her well-trodden diva persona. Pepsico apparently paid the star a staggering £9 million – that’s a whopping $17 million in Aussie dollars – to star in the minute-long spot.

The ad’s the work of creative agency AMV BBDO and has already found some social media infamy after the singer begrudgingly took the tiniest of bites of a single chip. Check it out at the 50-second mark in the TVC below:
