Pinterest Opens First Australian Office

Pinterest will call Sydney home for its first office in the Australia/New Zealand region.

Announced today, the Australian office will be led by newly appointed country manager Carin Lee-Skelton, who has previously worked for the company in the UK.

“I’m excited to work closely with businesses of all sizes in Australia and New Zealand to help them reach their audiences on Pinterest,” she said.

“People go on Pinterest to try new things like outfit ideas, recipes, beauty looks, dream trips and even home remodels. As people come to Pinterest full of intent, businesses have a unique opportunity to inspire them to bring their ideas to life.”

The Sydney office marks the company’s third space in the APAC region, joining Tokyo and Singapore.

Despite only just opening a local office, Pinterest has been actively advertising in Australia and New Zealand since 2017.

The visual discovery engine – which allows users to explore their interests by ‘pinning’ images and videos onto boards – currently works with big local brands like Domain and Woolworths, as well as a host of smaller players.

Pinterest global head of sales Jon Kaplan said the move was to accommodate the growing local market.

“Over the past year, we’ve been meeting growing advertiser demand by scaling our teams where we’ve launched ads such as in Australia and New Zealand, as well as expanding our ads business into new markets,” Kaplan said.

“With Carin’s proven industry knowledge and years of experience driving results for brands on Pinterest, we’re looking forward to further developing the opportunities for businesses in Australia and New Zealand with a local team under her leadership.”

Pinterest currently boasts a user base of more than 300 million, with the APAC region currently one of the fastest-growing.
