Sportsbet Refunds Over $700k After “Farcical” Finishes In Cricket And Tennis

Sportsbet Refunds Over $700k After “Farcical” Finishes In Cricket And Tennis

Almost 18,000 people will be refunded by Sportsbet after close finishes in both the cricket and the tennis overnight.

England won its first Cricket World Cup on the basis of a boundary countback, while Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon by a tie break, at 12-12, in the fifth set.

Now Sportsbet is consoling the “unlucky losers” in both events, refunding anyone who had New Zealand or Roger Federer in the match betting market or the outright tournament market in bonus bets.

“Let’s not beat around the bush, for a World Cup to be decided in that manner is an absolute disgrace, and the punters shouldn’t have to pay for the ineptness of the ICC,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Rich Hummerston.

Hummerston labelled the boundary countback ruling that sealed England’s victory as a “farcical finish” to the tournament.

Ahead of Sportbet making the announcement, punters were already asking for their money back on social media.

However, the $700,000 Sportsbet is refunding pales into insignificance compared with the $5.2 million the company paid out to those who had bet on Labor two days ahead of this year’s Federal Election.
