It’s Back! B&T’s Women In Media Power List Nominees For 2018!
The 2018 Women in Media Awards are mere months away, which means we need your help with the Power List once again! So, if you’re a powerful, trailblazing, inspirational woman, we want you!
Obviously, there are a ton of amazing women in our industry.
So to make it a little easier, we’ve searched far and wide and come up with a list of the best of the best nominees for the Power List.
We’ve got over 100 amazing women – but if you think anyone’s missing (and we’re 100 per cent sure there is, BTW), leave it in the comments section below! And if you think you’re missing make sure you let us know too.
Alternatively, if you see someone you don’t think should be on this list at all, leave it in the comments section too! Comments for everyone!
Once we have the combined list of women, we’ll throw it over to our judges to select their top picks, thus arriving at the final 30.
Last year, our winner was none other than the fabulous Nicole Sheffield.
You don’t have to be a CEO to get on this list (or top it) – our judges just have to deem you influential and powerful. So if that’s you, or someone you know! Comment away. But check this long list of amazing women first.

This is a great list, but I’d also like to give my support for Fiona Lang at BBC Studios. She is an amazing leader, mentor, lawyer and strategist. And, importantly, she’s someone who always goes above and beyond to do good things for the industry and community– whether it’s mentoring a colleague, raising money for Oxfam, or doing work with the UN Women National Committee. (Even though she is monumentally busy, it’s never just a token gesture with Fiona.) Many congratulations!
Thanks so much for all your suggestions – we’ve added them in and now have a final long list!
There’s no one better placed to receive the B&T Women in Media award than Fiona Lang, COO of BBC Studios ANZ. Fiona is nothing short of a powerhouse. Making light work of guiding the world’s most trusted media brand through the choppy waters of digital disruption, while simultaneously serving as a Non-Exec Director for UN Women. Here is someone who wholeheartedly walks the talk.
I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from Fiona and her unique approach to corporate strategy – a mastery of business acumen combined with lateral creative thinking, has been influential in shaping my career. Fiona leads with an infectious energy and integrity, inspiring confidence to adopt new approaches that will positively challenge the status quo. Her longstanding commitment to The Women’s College mentoring program and the personal generosity I have received as a mentee are a testament to Fiona’s genuine passion for helping advance the careers of young women in the industry. Any Women in Media Power List wouldn’t be complete without Fiona Lang!
I think you’re missing Rebecca Horne – Chief Digital Officer of the NRL and Kylie Rogers, GM Commerical AFL – Two women in traditionally male dominated roles and codes. They are trail blazers for women in media.
Angie Bradbury – MD and Founder of Dig&Fish. Angie is such an incredible leader not just for the agency team but for the whole industry. She is passionate about women in leadership and demonstrates this each and every day. One of the most inspiring people I’ve had the privilege of working with.
Karen Madden, CMO at Nine, should definitely be on this list. Karen’s energy and drive motivates those around her to be the best they can be. She’s a natural leader who knows how to build a positive team culture focused on results, accountability and fun.
I would like to nominate Karen Madden, Chief Marketing Officer of the Nine Network. Since Karen started I have seen an incredible shift in morale across every touch point of the business.
Karen is an excellent leader and truly believes in the investment of good people, and strives to make the work environment a place you want to be.
She works hard, gives excellent direction, is passionate and focused all the while being approachable and personable.
Karen Madden should definitely be on this list!
I’d like to nominate one of the most sophisticated thinkers and inspiring leaders I know; Kim McKay of Klick Communications. https://au.linkedin.com/in/kimmckayklick
Very few women have contributed to global travel and lifestyle brands like the one and only Kim McKay. An independent comms agency advocate and super connector, she currently steers three dynamic international offices across Sydney, LA and Honolulu. Her greatest gift is that of embracing change and future-proofing where she is leading brands and her team. Always on the front-foot of trends, tech and talent – her humble approach to her own success is well deserving of some lime-light in 2018.
Leanne Cartwright-Bradford is the Head of Audible Australia and New Zealand and should without doubt be included in this list.
Leanne is one of Australia’s most experienced and passionate marketers, with extensive experience within the entertainment and technology industries. Having worked across some of the world’s top brands including Audible and Amazon, Twentieth Century Fox and Samsung, Leanne is an inspiring leader who steers the business and balances a huge number of responsibilities, but is never afraid to roll up her sleeves. Leanne is incredibly generous and giving with her time, and shares her impressive knowledge in order to develop her team. https://www.linkedin.com/in/leanne-cartwright-bradford-a443505/
Thanks so much everyone for your suggestions! I’ve added everyone above to the list – keep em coming!
