Women In Media Profile: Susan Duong

Women In Media Profile: Susan Duong

As we continue to push towards an equal future, more and more women are becoming leading figures for those around them, as well as younger women just starting their careers. And B&T thinks it’s time we shone a light on these industry power women.

So without further ado, welcome to our 2018 Women in Media series! This series is to celebrate our annual Women in Media Awards – which, come August, will recognise the best of the best women in our industry.

B&T is also taking steps in addressing gender disparity in the workplace with our upcoming event Changing The Ratio. Buy some last minute tickets here to be part of the movement.

Earlier this week, we took a closer look at Jo Scard from Fifty Acres – and now it’s Susan Duong’s turn! Susan is an eCommerce client partner at Facebook and would love to be her own boss.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Professionally the best advice I ever received was to do work that makes you happy and keeps me learning independent of salary. Income will take care of itself if you are doing the thing you love.

What’s your proudest professional moment?

Recognising early on the huge opportunity that digital presents and nervously walked away from a media position I loved to immerse myself into the unknown digital world. I would not be where I am today without making that move.

Quirkiest attribute?

Not sure if its quirky but I’m always up to join you on a fad. From sweaty gym pants to juice diets. I’m always up to try. Never able to sustain it but happy to give it ago.

Guiltiest pleasure?

Online shopping and dirty street pies. Doing both at the same time would be my version of heaven.

What women do you find inspiring?

Women who can do it all. Have a career, a family, a side hustle and still be humble, articulate and successful.

What would be your ultimate role?

Building my own business and being my own boss.

What advice would you give to young aspiring women?

Recognise that it’s not yet a level playing field but it’s a hurdle not an obstacle. And work actively to support each other.

Why are women vital to your industry?

Because women are people. It’s not a question that we would ask about men and it should be a goal for all that this isn’t a question we ask in the near future. We have a long way to go with diversity in media.

B&T‘s Women in Media Awards 2018 will be held on Friday 17 August 2018 at Doltone House – Jones Bay Wharf. Grab early bird tickets to the event here and find all other info on the website
