I’m A Celeb Audiences Drop As MKR Debuts Seventh Season

Seven’s reality cooking show My Kitchen Rules hit our tellys again last night, grilling the rest of the competition to become the most watched show for Monday evening.

The return of MKR saw audience numbers slip for Ten’s I’m a celebrity…get me out of here, with the numbers just shy of one million.

The debut of I’m a celeb on Sunday night – which saw 11 celebrities plunge themselves into the African jungle – drew 1.342 million in a five city metro, according to OzTam’s preliminary ratings.

However, Monday night, which promised the entry of Aussie cricketer Shane Warne, saw audiences at 927,000, pushing the show down to seventh place behind MKR, various news programs and Home & Away.

Seven’s MKR easily won the night with 1.576 million tuning in for the first episode, which saw two Mt Druitt cops deck out their restaurant in police paraphernalia, calling it Crime & Nourishment – get it?

The numbers this time around though are better for Ten than the last time the two shows clashed in the time slot.

When MKR launched its sixth season at the start of February last year it pulled a 1.596 million audience, but I’m a celeb only nabbed 755,000 at the same time.

The return of MKR helped Seven win the night overall last night, with an audience share of 30.8 per cent. Nine was in second place with 24.9 per cent, Ten in third with 20.3 per cent, ABC fourth with 19.3 per cent and SBS in fifth with 4.7 per cent.

MRK has proved to be a winner for Seven, being the most watched reality TV show in free-to-air TV last year.

And reality TV continues to pull in the big numbers for all commercial networks as Nine’s renovation show The Block and Ten’s reality cooking show MasterChef all found themselves in the most watched shows for 2015.
