Tuesday TV Wrap: Half-A-Million Tune In For ScoMo’s 2018 Budget

Typically, it’s a battle of the reality shows, but last night’s Budget speech proved a winner for the ABC where, in somewhat of cruel irony, it was revealed that treasurer Scott Morrison was ripping $84 million out of the public broadcaster’s budget. You can read B&T’s reporting on that here.

Some 495,000 tuned-in to hear ScoMo’s annual report on the nation’s finances, while 416,000 continued with the ABC’s post-Budget speech follow-up.

On the free-to-airs, MasterChef claimed bragging rights with 845,000, followed by The Voice with 842,000, while Seven’s House Rules got a bit of a bump from Monday’s debut, pulling 621,000.

Nine won the night with 29.8 per cent audience share and Seven snagged 26.7 per cent. Ten continues to bask in its MasterChef glow nabbing 20.6 per cent, while ScoMo’s efforts could only deliver the ABC 15.9 per cent. SBS had seven per cent.

Seven’s 6pm news bulletin (1.05 million) beat Nine’s (958,000). Compounding Seven’s House Rules worries is Andrew Denton’s Interview that only managed 393,000 last night.

Nine’s ACA had a bit of an off night with 825,000, while its Meghan and Harry: In Their Own Words could only muster 504,000.

MasterChef aside, Ten’s The Project pulled 558,000, while Hughesy, We Have A Problem continues to prove a problem, managing a poor 389,00. It appears everyone’s given up on the outgoing Family Feud, it had 301,000 tune-in.

Over at the ABC, its other non-Budget shows went thus: 7pm news bulletin (674,000), The Real Camilla: Duchess of Cornwall (370,000), Think Tank (237,000) and Working with Weinstein (186,000). SBS’s best was Who Do You Think You Are?  that managed 334,000.
