Ryan Reynolds And K-Pop Fans Are Uniting To Challenge National League Streaming Rights

Ryan Reynolds’ call to action on Twitter aiming to change the broadcasting rights surrounding the Vanarama National League and his beloved Wrexham squad has picked up an unlikely backing: that of the fanbase for K-Pop group Stray Kids.

The surprising news comes after Reynolds, who is a co-owner of football team Wrexham AFC, tweeted out in frustration at the inability for National League matches to be streamed either domestically or internationally.

Reynolds has been attempting to boost viewership of his club in tandem with the release of a documentary surrounding the team which released its first two episodes on Disney+ last week, but it appears the conversation surrounding streaming rights with Vanarama has fallen flat.

However, in an unlikely response, it appears there could very shortly be a swathe of K-Pop enthusiasts backins Reynolds and his club, after a Twitter user and Stray Kids fan initiated the conversation in response.

The collaboration between the Deadpool actor and Stray Kids wouldn’t be completely unheard of. As noted by the “Bangchan’s bestie” comment, Reynolds has interacted with the K-Pop group in the past, including a meeting with group member Bang Chan as part of the promotion for his film Free Guy.

In addition to the tweets from Reynolds, Wrexham released a public statement clarifying the attempt at a deal with BT Sport to stream an upcoming game against Gateshead.

“Unbelievably, the request hasn’t even been considered by the board of the National League yet, never mind a decision made.

“The club feels let down and can only assure fans, both new and old, that we have done everything we could to provide the opportunity to watch the game live, both in the UK and overseas.

“We will continue to push, to ensure that all clubs can stream games, not just Wrexham AFC.”
