Jimmy Barnes Reaches Out To Working Class Men As SmoothFM’s Newest Radio Host

Multi award winning rock and roll legend Jimmy Barnes joins smoothfm’s weekend line-up from Sunday 5 June at 8pm.

Barnes will host a series of Sunday night shows on smooth, featuring a handpicked selection of soul classics – from Otis Redding, Wilson Picket and Aretha Franklin to Marvin Gaye and Tina Turner and more – that inspired his original Soul Deep album.

Barnes has carved out an impressive career as a solo performer and leader singer of Cold Chisel, making him one of the most popular and best-selling Australian artists of all time. Since his music career began Jimmy has gone from strength-to-strength, with countless successful and acclaimed releases. With a combined 18 #1 albums across Cold Chisel and his solo career, Barnes has topped the charts in Australia more than any other artist.

In 2022 Barnes celebrates the 30th anniversary of Soul Deep, one of Australia’s highest-selling albums of all-time (almost 1 million copies sold), with the release of Soul Deep 30 on Friday 17 June. Alongside the 12
original Soul Deep recordings, the album also includes three brand new recordings including ‘Soothe Me’ (1967 Sam & Dave classic) featuring Sam Moore; ‘Do You Love Me’ featuring The Teskey’s Brothers Josh Teskey; and ‘Reflections’ with vocals by Cold Chisel’s Ian Moss as well as a new rock version of ‘I Gotcha’. Jimmy Barnes will tour with his 12-piece band throughout June and July.

Barnes has also released six best-selling books: his memoirs Working Class Boy, Working Class Man and Killing Time, two children’s books – Och Aye the G’nu and Rosie The Rhinoceros, as well as a cookbook Where the River Bends with wife Jane.

In 2017 Barnes was appointed an Officer of the Order Of Australia (AO). He has been inducted into the ARIA and APRA Halls Of Fame and has won six ARIA Awards and an APRA Award.

Barnes is the latest in a long list of high-profile artists and personalities to join the smoothfm line-up including Sir Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, Ronan Keating, Olivia Newton-John, Neil Diamond, Elton John and Dolly Parton.
