Travel Ad Convinces Chris Hemsworth To Visit Cowra, With Plans Now In Place For A 40-Metre ‘Big Chris’ Statue!

An ad that called for Hollywood A-lister Chris Hemsworth to visit the NSW country town of Cowra appears to have done the business after the actor – who also happens to be a Tourism Australia ambassador – agreed to visit.

As reported on B&T last week, the sleepy town in NSW’s Central West wanted more tourists and released a playful and humble TVC via creative agency Visual Doman that included a petition #GetChrisToCowra that called on the Thor actor to make a visit. It even included the promise to build a statue in honour of the 38-year-old, dubbed The Big Chris.

Having seen the campaign, Hemsworth has now agreed to visit the town; however, it won’t happen until 2022 due to current filming commitments in Europe. Check out the spot below.

Commenting on Hemsworth’s RSVP, Cowra Tourism manager Glenn Daley said he was in “disbelief” at the news.

“I was actually out in the paddock doing some farm stuff, and the assistant manager called and said ‘we’ve got him’!” Daley told the ABC.

“It’ll allow us to do more on the marketing campaign. Not only that, we need some time to dust off the good china and give the town a bit of a once-over to make sure it’s Chris-worthy,” he said.

As for a Big Chris statue, Daley revealed that plans had been drawn-up and, upon completion, it would be “40 metres tall and 10 metres wide”.

“I’m going to have to have a chat to him about that to see what his thoughts are,” Daley said of Hemsworth’s views on Big Chris.

On his plans for Hemsworth’s itinerary win he finally does arrive, Daley said: “We’ll definitely take him out to dinner [and] have a couple of beers with him.

“I’d love to take him out onto (Wyangala) dam where he can have a surf.

“I’m sure the phrase ‘Chris-tastic’ will be making it into the Cowra language,” an excited Daley revealed.
