ABC Radio Host Jon Faine Calls Out Peter Dutton For Constantly Trying To Sue Him

Australian broadcaster and ABC veteran Jon Faine has alleged that out of all Aussie politicians, Peter Dutton has threatened to sue him the most in his career.

In a piece for The Age, Faine wrote about his career in radio claiming that the ABC managers had “Dutton Fatigue” from the Defence Minister’s continual threats to sue for defamation.

Faine alleged that Dutton had taken an interest in everything he said about him, saying: “I wanted to start my own proceedings against the minister alleging he defamed me for claiming I was defaming him when plainly I was not.

“I argued that it was defamatory to accuse a professional broadcaster of defamation for no reason, as the inference was that I was reckless or incompetent, derelict in my obligations to my employer, in breach of the ABC charter and someone the audience could not trust.”

This isn’t the first time Dutton has been accused of threatening to get lawyers involved a little too much.

The Defence Minister drew criticism for referring to the Britanny Higgins rape case as “she said, he said”, and then sent out a slew of defamation threats to social media users who called him a rape apologist.

Crickey wrote a scathing piece in response to his actions, that included a particularly snarky meme.

The Guadian also famously reported that Dutton tried to get a photo of himself removed from the internet after it was being made into a meme which, naturally, led to the internet making even more fun of him.
