No Charger? Smaller Battery? Cheaper? Rumours Fly Ahead Of iPhone 12 Release

No Charger? Smaller Battery? Cheaper? Rumours Fly Ahead Of iPhone 12 Release

With September fast approaching, Apple fanatics know this only means one thing  – the launch of the new iPhone is close.

Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, Apple boss Tim Cook is still expected to get onstage at the Steve Jobs Theater in a little over a month’s time and announce the latest range of iPhones.

And according to the experts, there are some significant changes coming in the new devices.

In terms of the name, although Apple has previously followed the pattern of a numerical increase one year, then an ‘S’ the following year (eg iPhone 6 in 2014 followed by the iPhone 6s in 2015) the anticipated changes are so significant that it is unlikely there will be an iPhone 11S to follow last year’s iteration.

This means the iPhone 12 will be hitting shelves in September.

Rumours – from dedicated site macrumors.com – suggest the iPhone 12 will not include a power adaptor or EarPods in the box, both as a way to cutdown on production costs and steer users towards wireless options.

And this cost-cutting could be passed on the the customer.

Many were surprised last year when Apple released its base model iPhone at a price roughly $US50 cheaper than the year before.

And this trend could continue in 2020.

Tech analyst Jon Prosser tipped the base model iPhone 12 to be priced at $US649 ($926) – roughly $US50 cheaper than the 2019 price.

There is also the suggestion there will be a new TrueDepth camera system to cut down the size of the notch on the front, as well as a triple-lens rear camera.

Mysmartprice has also leaked a rumour this week that the new phone would actually have a smaller battery capacity to that of its predecessor.

The new device is also expected to come equipped with a new chip.

It is expected Apple’s contract chip maker will manufacture a 5-nanometer A 14 chip, which will focus on speeding up artificial intelligence and AR tasks.

And while there are some big changes coming under the hood, don’t expect the new iPhone to look too different to the iPhone 11.

Japanese publication Mac Otakara has cited sources confirming the iPhone 12 will look more or less the same as the iPhone 11.
