“Lest We Forgot”: Council Forced To Apologise For “Disrespectful” Anzac Day Flag Error

Lest we forget… to check the spelling before erecting thirty very large Anzac Day flags around the streets of Sydney’s inner-west.

The importance of spell-check cannot be denied after an embarrassing spelling mistake was spotted on dozens of Anzac Day flags in Sydney’s inner-west.

Instead of the phrase “Lest we forget”, thirty large flags featuring the faces of servicemen were incorrectly printed and erected with the words “Lest we forgot”.

According to the City of Canada Bay council, the error was a result of a miscommunication between council staff and the printing company who made the banners.

The banners were quickly removed after the council was made aware of the mishap by a local resident.

The council’s general manager Peter Gainsford said in a statement to 2GB: “I am extremely disappointed and accept full responsibility. All of the banners are currently being removed with urgency.

“I have today been made aware of banners that have been erected in our area containing an extremely unfortunate and disrespectful error.”
