Seven Reporter Asks Paralympian Kurt Fearnley What It’ll Be Like To “Walk” Into Commonwealth Games Opener

Channel Seven reporter Jim Wilson has possibly earned blooper of the Commonwealth Games after he asked legendary wheelchair-bound athlete Kurt Fearnley what it would be like to “walk” into the stadium prior to last night’s opening ceremony.

Wilson probed: “How about walking… and coming into the stadium tonight?” to a suited Fearnley as the Aussie team prepared for its rapturous hometown entrance.

Still, the triple Olympic gold medallist handled the gaffe with aplomb and offered just a bemused smirk to the journalist’s rather unfortunate line of questioning. Check out the disaster below:

Fearnley, who is also one of the Game’s ambassadors, will race in the marathon with reports that he will use the Gold Coast event as his final swan song before announcing his retirement.

    1. That would kind of be like calling Kurt a ‘triple Olympic gold medallist’. For the record it’s triple Paralympic gold medallist.

And if you looked into it you’d know Kurt has said he ‘walks in the ceremony’.

In fact he tweeted last night “Na, that’s correct terminology. I walk in my chair, run in my racer and dance when allowed”.

If you’re gonna have a crack at a bloody good reporter you’d wanna be right yourselves.
