Nova, ARN and Macquarie All Claim Radio Dominance
Yes it’s GfK’s Radio Ratings Survey 7 and the spin doctors are out and proud claiming victory for their respective employers. Here’s B&T’s breakdown of the five metro cities allowing you to be the judge.
Another radio survey from GfK, another win for Macquarie Media’s 2GB in Sydney, albeit with a reduced share down 0.8 per cent to 11.8.
ARN’s two juggernauts, KIIS1065 (9.5) and WSFM (9.4) continued on their merry way with one and two respectively in the FM Sydney station stakes. WSFM dropped 0.4 per cent of its share, while KIIS1065 gained nearly a whole point with a 0.9 per cent increase giving it internal bragging rights.
While 2GB dominated nearly every slot, it was beaten in the all-important drive slot by KIIS1065’s Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek. However the win would be bitter sweet for ARN as the wining duo are Hit network bound in 2018.
Nova continued to consolidate its position as the youth network of choice in Sydney winning the 18-24 year old demographic emphatically and only narrowly going down to KIIS1065 in the 10-17 year old bracket.
Melbourne saw Macquarie Media come up trumps (again!) via its 3AW with 15.5 of people and 15.8 of time. While it’s share in both vectors were down 0.7 (people) and 1.1 (time) its dominance of the over 65 category 36.2 per cent was enough to keep it several points clear of all comers.
The first of those comers was ARN’s GOLD104.3 with 11.1 of people 10+ and 11.0 per cent of all tine slots. It also won the FM breakfast time slot with 8.4 per cent of the share, which is relatively low for a winning time slot given the AM band’s dominance of that timeslot in Melbourne, which commands 32.5 per cent of the slot with 3AW swallowing 20 per cent and ABC MEL a further 12.5.
In Brisbane, Nova106.9 has the champagne corks flying today with a win and an increase of 0.4 percentage points of all listeners over 10 years old with 13.9 per cent of the market. It also won all time slots north of the border bar evenings.
HIT 105 (with 11.2) and 97.3FM (11.1) rounded out the top three for Brisbane.
Adelaide proved its not boring at all and produced the race of the ratings meet with five stations being separated by less than two percentage points all vying for first place. In the end the number one station was ARN’s Mix 102.3, with 11.8 per cent of the share.
You could then throw a net over second through to fifth with NOVA91.9 (11.2), FIVEaa (10.9), ABC ADE (10.4)and 5MMM (10.0) all competing fiercely. HIT107 was also meritorious in its efforts gaining 1.8 per cent in share to reach 9.8 per cent.
Finally Perth was SCA’s town once more with MIX 94.5 taking out top spot with 14.1 per cent of all people 10+, while Nova would also not be disappointed to take out the weekday breakfast slot in the West with 14.0 share of the time.
