Zuckerberg Forced To Defend Trump-Loving Board Member

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has distanced himself from Facebook board member, Peter Thiel (pictured below), who has outed himself as an unabashed Donald Trump supporter.

Tech industry site Hacker News is reporting that Zuckerberg took the unsual step of firing off an internal staff memo when Thiel’s political persuasions surfaced.

The memo read: “That’s easy to say when it means standing up for ideas you agree with It’s a lot harder when it means standing up for the rights of people with different viewpoints to say what they care about. That’s even more important.”

Zuckerberg is apparently a Clinton supporter, although he rarely airs his political views publicly. However, less-known Facebook founder and founder of Asana, Dustin Moskovitz, is far more vocal. Moskovitz’s apparently pledged $US20 million of his own cash to Clinton’s campaign.

“The Republican Party, and Donald Trump in particular, is running on a zero-sum vision, stressing a false contest between their constituency and the rest of the world,” Muskovitz told US media. “We believe their positions, especially on immigration, which purport to improve the lives of Americans, would in practice hurt citizens and noncitizens alike. In contrast, the Democratic Party, and Hillary Clinton in particular, is running on a vision of optimism, pragmatism, inclusiveness and mutual benefit.”
