The NSW country town of Nyngan has added to the nation’s list of big, crap tourist attractions with the launch of the Big Bogan.

Clearly desperate to drive tourists away, the country town yesterday unveiled a rusty-looking five-metre tall ‘bogan’ complete with Esky, thongs, fishing rod (and fish) and the obligatory bad Southern Cross tattoo.

“The response has been very good, lots of interest,” Bogan Shire Council mayor Ray Donald unbelievably said.

And the Council has big plans for the Big Bogan; although, we don’t foresee a new freeway needing to be built to accommodate the tourist hordes. Plans for a host of spin-offs to be sold at nearby tourist stores are planned including T-shirts, stubby holders and mini-replicas.

The Big Bogan adds to an embarrassing list of naff tourist sites across the nation including the ‘Big Stubby’ in the NT, the ‘Big Potato’ in Robertson in NSW and the ‘Big Mango’ in Bowen in Queensland (although we believe this may have disappeared after someone stole it.)
