Last week Instagram announced users can zoom in on still and moving images within the app; the ‘pinch to zoom’ feature works on the main feed, as well as profiles and explore. Companies have been quick to embrace the new feature with several brands profiles posting zoomable images and videos.
The feature was announced on Instagram’s official profile last week. The post said: “Starting today, you can pinch to zoom on photos and videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore. Dive into an adorable puppy’s smile or into every detail of your friend’s new shirt. Over the past six months, you’ve seen many exciting changes come to Instagram, from a new icon to longer videos and even a new way to share everyday moments with Instagram Stories.
“And as things change, we’re still focused on improving the core parts of Instagram. Zoom is available today for Instagram on iOS. Zoom will be available on Android in the coming weeks.”

The new zoom feature comes less than a month after the platform launched Instagram Stories— which was lampooned for copying Snapchat, a point which Instagram’s CEO Kevin Systrom didn’t deny saying “No one looks down at someone for adopting something that is so obviously great for presenting a certain type of information”.
Check out brands have been using the zoom feature since it launched last week. WARNING: The zoom feature works only from a mobile device, open in the Instagram app. The feature appeals to a wide range of brands with fast food companies, airlines, FMCG and alcohol companies jumping on board.
