The PETA Post That All Social Media Users Have Been Talking About
The non-profit organisation posted an image on its Twitter page that gained the internet’s attention, but not for the intended purpose.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) like to turn heads with their dramatic posts on their social media pages, in an attempt to gain the public’s attention and raise awareness about lesser known issues in regards to the treatment of animals.
However, their latest attempt seems to have gone awry, with one of their most recent posts becoming the centre of attention for many social media users but not for the purpose for which it was created. More specifically, the post, which was meant to be about how painful prong collars are to dogs and point out why they should never be used, included an image (or drawing, to be more accurate) that quickly gained the wrong kind of attention.
Your dog wouldn’t do this to you—don’t do it to them. pic.twitter.com/lm1tDFtv3Q
— PETA (@peta) March 14, 2022
The image featured an anthropomorphic dog attempting to walk a human using a prong collar, with the person in the image being in obvious pain, while at the top were the words “what if the roles were reversed? Prong collars are wrong and dangerous.” However, the internet, being the place that it is, quickly took this image way out of context with some users clearly thinking it alluded elsewhere.
“It seems peta doesn’t know what furrys are”, said one user.
“Bro why the dog look like an nft”, added another.
For those who don’t know, the word “furry” refers to people who dress in full-body animal costumes and usually alludes to acts of sexual nature.
The post had a number of other comments that included images of a highly suggesting nature, which is proof that while PETA may have had good intentions behind the creation of the image, they clearly missed the mark.
