Sunday TV Wrap: Networks Lean Into True Crime Despite Low Viewership

Seven, Nine, and 10 all had true crime in their Sunday night line-up, despite none of the programs performing particularly well.

Seven’s Crime Investigation Australia: Most Infamous had 301,000 viewers, making it the top-performing true crime show. The was 10’s FBI: Most Wanted at 280,000, and Nine’s Australian Crime Stories with 198,000. Perhaps programs about serial killers aren’t the ideal salve for the Sunday night scaries?

Coming out on top was Seven News with 1,030,000 viewers, followed by Nine News with 1,009,000.

Lego Masters jumped 96,000 viewers from the same time last week, scoring a nice 811,000 viewers as the third most-watched program of the night.

MasterChef also performed better than last week’s Sunday ep, but with a narrower increase of 65,000 viewers. It scored 592,000 viewers, making it the fifth watched TV of the night. However, it couldn’t quite clinch ABC News, which had 617,000.

Seven’s Big Brother had 534,000 viewers, captivated by a frankly befuddling argument about chickpeas (yes, the legume) which dominated Sunday night’s episode.

Next was ABC’s Spicks and Specks with 530,000 viewers, building on last week’s numbers. The ABC also had Insiders with 233,000 viewers.

Seven’s AFL programming scored 530,000 viewers while Weekend Sunrise had 263,000 viewers.

For Nine, 60 Minutes had 464,000 viewers while the Sunday NRL had 285,000, Weekend Today had 203,000 and Australian Crime Stories had 198,000.

Finally for 10, The Sunday Project had 426,000 viewers, while 10 News First had 265,000.

Nine (all channels) had 30 per cent of the daily share, followed by Seven (all channels) with 26 per cent. Next was 10 (all channels) with 20 per cent, then the ABC (all channels) with 14 per cent.

Finally, SBS (all channels) had eight per cent of the share.
