Zuckerberg’s Private Memo Smackdown On Racist Employees Leaked

A private memo to Facebook employees has been leaked sent from CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressing his disappointment/anger that people are scratching out “black lives matter” on the company’s famous signature wall at its Menlo Park, California, headquarters (MPK).

“There have been several recent instances of people crossing out ‘black lives matter’ and writing ‘all lives matter’ on the walls at MPK,” Zuckerberg wrote in the private memo, obtained by Gizmodo.
The Black Lives Matter movement protests the institutionalised violence against African Americans; in particular police brutality, racial profiling and racial inequality. The movement started after a neighbourhood watch guard (George Zimmerman) at a gated community fatally shot an unarmed 17-year-old young Black man Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was acquitted of the murder.
“Despite my clear communication at Q&A last week that this was unacceptable, and messages from several other leaders from across the company, this has happened again. I was already very disappointed by this disrespectful behavior before, but after my communication I now consider this malicious as well,” he continued.

Facebook, as a company, is notoriously not the most diverse place. Last year, Facebook’s diveversity report showed that more than half of its US staff are white. The proportion of Asian employees increased by 2 per cent to 36 per cent, but the shares of hispanic (4 per cent) and African American (2 per cent) or those of “two or more races” (3 per cent) remained flat.
According to its 2014 EEO-1, Facebook’s US division hired 36 black people and 73 Hispanic people compared to 603 white people .
