American popstar Selena Gomez has achieved the unachievable, something which B&T has been trying for weeks to get, the singer has taken out the most-liked picture on Instagram- but the title isn’t without controversy.
Fans liked a picture of Gomez holding a Coca-Cola bottle more than 4.2 million times since it was posted two weeks ago. The photo shows lyrics from her song Me & the Rhythm on the Coca-Cola label with the caption “When your lyrics are on the bottle”. However the picture is actually a advert, but doesn’t feature a disclaimer or tag that the post is #sponsored.
The popstar has more than 89 million followers on Instagram which means not only does she have the most liked photo on Instagram, she is also the ‘most-followed person’ on the platform.
Here’s the picture:
Gomez discussed her Instagram strategy during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m not sure there’s a method to my madness,” admits Gomez, who shares a few tips, like: If a caption isn’t coming to you, use emoji and ‘let it be’.
“It comes in a moment when I capture something happening, and I go, ‘Oh, that would be great for Instagram. I should post it.’ I know it’s boring, but that’s genuinely what I do.”
The popstar is one of the faces in Coca-Cola’s new “Share a Coke and a Song” campaign. The Sip. Share. Win. campaign started in mid-April, with more than 70 genre-spanning lyrics – from classic hits to recent chart-toppers – will be featured on all four Trademark Coke brands.
Gomez also appeared on the first sponsored Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden, during the segment Corden and Gomez went through a McDonald’s drive-thru and placed an order. The two were then seen chomping on Maccas fries and drinking a Coke.
Last week, Coca-Cola in the UK launched a new YouTube channel “Coke TV” to try and arrest the fall of sales. The channel is hosted by two British YouTube stars Manny and Dodie and focus on youth topics such as music, games and sport. Check it out here.
