Indie BWM buys digital shop Sputnik

Advertising agency BWM has acquired digital communications agency Sputnik with which it has formed a “close relationship” due to two joint clients.

The acquisition was made on the final day of 2012.

Sputnik will continue to operate under its own brand but the agency’s Sydney and Melbourne offices will be merged or “co-located” with BWM Melbourne and Sydney.

Nick Lewis is to continue as chief executive of the digital agency.

Paul Williams, chief executive officer of BWM, said in a statement: “Sputnik is a good fit for BWM because it complements our offer. As the lead creative agency, we develop ideas that get Australians talking. Sputnik extends our reach through digital channels and enhances our digital specialist capacity.”

“So its business as usual for Sputnik clients, but with the added heft of Australia’s largest independent creative agency standing behind them.

“With BWM’s strategic and creative lead, Sputnik as digital production specialists, and our PR agency Cox Inall delivering social media community management, we have a compelling digital media Offering.”

Sputnik and BWM have previously worked together on their joint clients Sanitarium and GE Money.

Other Sputnik clients include Google and Schweppes.
