“What Fresh Hell Is This?” British Meat Extract Bovril Launches Beef Flavoured Ice Blocks

One of the more peculiar aspects of British cuisine, alongside Marmite and warm beer, is the meaty extract paste Bovril that’s used as a slightly foul seasoning for things such as soups and gravies.

But throwing off its more wintery origins, the brand has come up with a unique extension – the Bovril Beef Ice Lolly (or ice-block, as we Australians refer to them as.)

As summer temperatures reach a scorching 22 degrees in some parts of the UK, Bovril was snapped handing out the meaty ice confection at London’s Wembley Stadium to shocked passersby.

Bovril advertised the treat as a free, one-off handout, which still wasn’t enough for many: “It’s free and I imagine I’d still want some sort of compensation for this monstrosity,” tweeted one non-fan.

A second added: “I would pay for them to not hand that out to me.”

“This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen at a football match and I’ve watched [England player] Jamie Hanson play,” another wit penned.

Despite the limited addition treat being widely slammed, Brits often drink Bovril with boiling water as a kinda of meat-flavoured tea. As much as we would bone broth.

Check out some of the more hilarious Twitter responses to the stunt below:
