The Project’s Chrissie Swan Slammed For Awkward Breast Cancer Comment

The Project viewers were left befuddled last night after host, Chrissie Swan’s cringeworthy response to an interviewee revealing her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

Last night, MasterChef Australia contestant, Minoli De Silva spoke candidly about the day she received a second breast cancer diagnosis, followed soon after by an offer to appear on the latest season of the popular cooking show.

“Wow, from the sublime to the ridiculous, I don’t know which one is which!” Swan awkwardly responded.

De Silva seemed visibly unimpressed by Swan’s comment, while co-host, Sarrah Le Marquand quickly changed the subject back to De Silva’s cooking.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter was up-in-arms about the tone deaf comment, as well as the not-so-seamless transition between topics to cover up Swan’s bungle.

One user even introduced the #whatwouldcarriedo hashtag, referring to stalwart presenter, Carrie Bickmore, who is currently away on leave, and who Swan is standing in for.

“Chrissy saying “from the sublime to the ridiculous “ after Minoli talked about getting a cancer diagnosis and a call from Masterchef on the same day was really poor. How about “how are you feeling”” tweeted one user.

“”From Sublime to Ridiculous” is literally not how you respond to someone talking about a cancer diagnosis”, tweeted another.

One user simply asked the question on all our minds: “Did the project just brush over Minolis cancer diagnosis?”

Sadly, this is not De Silva’s first diagnosis, with the chef and reality TV star having initially received a diagnosis stage 3A triple positive breast cancer in 2017, for which she had to undergo chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and an eventual double mastectomy.

Last year, Minoli told news.com.au the experience only strengthened her love of food, and also helped her rediscover and appreciate new flavours.

Neither Swan, nor Channel 10 have commented on the matter.
