Nine Working With Local Authorities To Ensure Love Island Goes Ahead After COVID-19 Scare

The Nine Network has confirmed that they are working to ensure production of Love Island Australia is able to go ahead after COVID-19 concerns linked to production.

While So Dramatic, an entertainment blog site, has claimed that production is due to be cancelled, a Nine spokesperon told B&T that this was not the case.

“We are working with production and authorities as we find a way to deliver the show for our audience,” the spokesperson said.

B&T understands that the network is working with state and local authorities to make production as COVID-safe as possible.

The rumours of cancellation have sprung as the result of the Byron Shire’s COVID-19 outbreak, which has been linked to make-up artist from ITV studios’ I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! The make-up artist has been charged by police for breaching public health orders.

ITV produces Love Island Australia for Nine, and I’m A Celebrity for 10.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Byron Shire’s Mayor, Michael Lyon is frustrated by ITV Studios.

Lyon told the publication, “I’ve lost all confidence in their ability to protect the community. It shows these protections are still based on an honour system. I thought crew members were going to be limited to within the production, certainly not allowed to be going out and about.”

ITV released a statement regarding the I’m A Celebrity cast member’s positive COVID test.

“We can confirm that one of our crew members has tested positive to COVID-19. This discovery was made through the rigorous testing regime implemented by our CovidSAFE plan,” the statement said.

“The crew member is fully vaccinated and was wearing PPE while at work. All close contacts of the crew member from within the ITV production have been identified. They are being tested and will isolate in accordance with NSW Health’s requirements.”
