Australia’s Got Talent Officially Postponed Due To COVID-19

After rumours began circulating that Australia’s Got Talent had been postponed – or even cancelled – due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney, Seven has officially confirmed that the season has been postponed.

The story was originally reported on Monday night by TVBlackbox, who cited information from Seven insiders that the crew of the show had been released earlier in the day.

This year’s AGT line-up includes two international hosts, actor Neil Patrick-Harris and singer Alesha Dixon. According to TVBlackbox, they had already completed their two week quarantine.

When reach out to for comment, a Seven spokesperson confirmed to B&T that “due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in Sydney, we have decided to postpone production of the new season of AGT to a date to be determined.”

“A studio audience is a vitally important part of this much-loved show, so we have made the responsible but tough call to not go ahead for now.”

Seven also thanked the judges, which includes Aussies Kate Ritchie and Shane Jacobson, as well as host Ricki-Lee.

Seven made clear that the postponement, while “disappointing”, will not limit their programming.

“There is a lot of great content to come on Seven across the rest of 2021,” said the spokesperson.

This “[includes] Farmer Wants A Wife – which starts this Sunday – The Voice, SAS Australia, Big Brother VIP, more of our high-rating 7NEWS Spotlight specials, a special on William Tyrrell, the AFL Finals Series, Bathurst 1000 and, of course, the Tokyo Olympics and the Ashes Test series.”

The 2021 series will go ahead at some point in the future, but exactly when is still to be determined.
