‘You Can Buy A REAL Plane For Less!’ Louis Vuitton Shows Off $50k Plane Bag

Credit goes to French fashion house Louis Vuitton for triggering the internet with another absurdly expensive amenity: this time, it’s a plane-shaped bag more expensive than an actual plane.

After paying tribute to Jamaica’s national flag on a jumper design with colours from the wrong flag, Louis Vuitton’s men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh is back with another ‘WTF’ product.

In early April, the brand unveiled a US$39,000 (nearly $50,000) men’s bag by Abloh that resembles a Boeing 747 as part of its Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

The bag features the brand’s brown leather and LV monogram, and including wings, engines, tail and cockpit windows. As one Twitter user pointed out, it retails for more than a real, second-hand plane.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the product comes from the mind of the man who wrote, and later deleted, in 2012: “Design is the freshest scam. Quote me on that.”

So is this latest work a marketing ploy?

News of the product has started a bit of a meme fest online and has stirred the attention of the press, with major Australian outlets owned by Nine and News Corp covering the news for clicks a month after it emerged.

It even gained the interest of aviation companies in the United States, with Southwest Airlines tweeting out an image of a “SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper” plush toy that even “makes a takeoff noise when squeezed. Just saying”.
