Nigella Lawson Nominated For BAFTA Thanks To ‘Microwave’ Pronunciation

Nigella Lawson, chef, TV host, writer, and domestic goddess has been nominated for a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) for a moment during her show Cook, Eat, Repeat, when she pronounced ‘microwave’ as ‘mee-cro-whav-ay’.

Further clarification on pronunciation is best decided with your own ears.

At the time, the pronunciation went viral, with a host of memes celebrating it. Lawson herself even joined in the fun.

Now, the moment has been nominated for the BAFTA’s TV Must-See Moment of 2020. It is sponsored by Virgin Media and voted on directly by members of the British public.

She is currently up against some other iconic moments (stop reading now to avoid spoilers!), including the reveal of Lady Whistledown’s identity on Bridgerton, Luke Skywalker’s appearance in Disney’s The Mandalorian and dance group Diversity’s Black Lives Matter performance on Britain’s Got Talent.

Lawson herself has not tweeted officially about the nomination, other than to share this thread of herself as different microwaves.

The BAFTAS will be held on June 6th.
