IKEA Delivers Glorious Advertising Blunder (& Cheeky Comeback)

IKEA Delivers Glorious Advertising Blunder (& Cheeky Comeback)

No one loves an IKEA ad like B&T. They’re often cool, contemporary and don’t require three days of assembly and a bad dose of carpet burn.

However, some new work for the global furniture assembly chain is catching people’s attention and for all the wrong reasons.

The offending billboard appeared out the front of IKEA’s flagship store in Bahrain and arguably highlights the difficulties faced by global brands.

The ad reads “Create your perfect night’s sleep” in English, followed by the Arabic translation.

But, it appears the instructions to the translator got a little lost. The Arabic translation reads: “Same text, but in Arabic’.

The blunder was first noticed by a Twitter user called “Sneha”.

However, for its part, IKEA quickly turned the blunder into opportunity.

Once the ad was called out, IKEA put a line through the mistake and wrote underneath: “This is what happens when you don’t get good sleep. Enjoy your perfect sleep.”

Well, played IKEA! Or is just another example of that dry Scandinavian wit?
