Only Four Women Made Radio’s Top 20 Content Directors In 2020

As the issue of equality is more prevalent than ever, it’s interesting that men are still dominating the radio industry, and by a long shot.

Radio Today has released its Top 20 radio content directors for 2020, with the latest list including both station content chief but also the top network programmers.

Some of the key stats include:

  • Seven new entries in this year’s Top 20
  • 11 of the Top 20 are Sydney-based, while another seven call Melbourne home.
  • There are nine entries from Southern Cross Austereo, six from Australian Radio Network and three from NOVA Entertainment. Grant Broadcasters and Nine Radio are also represented.

And perhaps the most pertinent statistic of all? Only four women content directors made the Top 20 (well, 21 if we’re being technical, as two people tied for spot 20 – one being a female).

According to Radio Today, the list reflects the overall influence of stations, talent management and direction, music influence, experience, market size, competitive landscape and the scale of the position.
