NSW Police To Warn Nine & MAFS Contestants Over Continual Drama And Complaints
The NSW Police Force is set to issue Nine and its future MAFS contestants a warning over the continual drama and complaints brought forward to the police from ex-contestants.
As reported on The Tele, police will warn Nine, production house Endemol Shine and celebrity agents that they will not put up with participants consistently calling the police and filing complaints, especially when paparazzi just happen to be around to capture the whole thing.
An anonymous officer old The Tele: “I’m going to go to Channel 9 myself before the next series airs to say this is something you need to warn all the contestants about.
“It has happened a lot this year. We take all police reports seriously, but what’s happening with MAFS contestants is a gee-up. We are in the midst of 24/7 dramas.”
This season of MAFS has seen a number of contestants file complaints to the police over a series of different incidents.
While some more serious than others, such as one complaint from a female contestant over a nude video of her, other complaints include when a male contestant filed a complaint at Mosman police station after threats were made against him.
As reported on The Tele, both times paparazzi were present to record the incidents, which is not to suggest the contestants organised the paparazzi to be present.
“I find it difficult that every time someone from Married At First Sight turns up to the police station, they have a pap with them,” the police officer told The Tele.
“To my mind, their agent is just trying to get them some cash for a story.
“If there is no pap there, no one is going to know about it and no one is going to write about it.”
The officer said this behavior has prompted him to tell other officers to be cautious of TV stars who come to file complaints.
“I have cautioned commanders not to be dismissive of reports, but to be mindful that paps will often be present when someone presents because they were coming thick and fast,” he said.
