Logies Set To Shift To The Gold Coast For 2018 (No News If Karl’s RSVP-ed)
TV WEEK has today announced that the TV WEEK Logie Awards are heading to Queensland’s Gold Coast from 2018, as part of a four-year deal with the Queensland Government and Tourism and Events Queensland.
It follows last week’s announcement that the event would be moved from its spiritual home, Melbourne, who’d hosted TV’s night of nights for the past 30 years, most of which was at Melbourne’s Crown Casino. The Victorian Government deciding its $1 million annual investment in bringing the event to the state wasn’t a good use of taxpayer’s dollars.
The move infuriated Nine personality, Karl Stefanovic, who said he would now boycott the event telling his Today show audience: “I will not be going to the Logies if they’re outside of Melbourne. I’m very sad. This is a huge loss for the city.”
The Logies will now take place in July at The Star on the Gold Coast with broadcast partner the Nine Network once again bringing all the action to viewers across the country.
As an established destination for television and film production which attracts numerous quality local and international productions, Queensland is the perfect location to host the TV WEEK Logie Awards, the first time they have been held in the Sunshine State.
The TV WEEK Logies are Australia’s most popular and talked about awards show and red carpet event. This year’s Nine Network broadcast pulled in an average national audience of 1.301 million, peaking at 1.766 million. The awards also saw record numbers across the brand’s digital platforms, with more than 1.1 million page views on the official TV WEEK Logies website and a Facebook reach of more than four million people.
“We are delighted to be partnering with the Queensland Government, Tourism and Events Queensland, The Star and Nine Network to bring the TV Week Logie Awards to Queensland for the first time,” says Jayne Ferguson, General Manager, Women’s Lifestyle & Entertainment at Bauer Media, says. “The Logies have enjoyed considerable support over the many years they have been held in Melbourne but it’s the right time, as we celebrate our 60th year, for us to share that excitement with another great Australian city and we look forward to the Gold Coast hosting television’s night of nights in 2018 and beyond.”
“The Queensland Government’s investment in the TV WEEK Logies through Tourism and Events Queensland is a great investment for the State. We look forward to bringing Australia’s finest television stars to the Gold Coast, benefitting our local screen industry and showcasing our beautiful state,” Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland, said.
Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones adds: “The TV WEEK Logie Awards is a great coup for our state and will drive momentum in attracting quality local and international events.”
“This is a great opportunity to show off our amazing updated venue. With luxurious accommodation, a world-class 24-hour casino, sumptuous dining, lively bars, and star-studded entertainment, The Star is the perfect place to host the TV WEEK Logie Awards and we are thrilled to be hosting it,” Geoff Hogg, managing director of The Star Entertainment Group, said.
Hugh Marks, Nine Network CEO, said: “The Nine Network is pleased to be on board broadcasting the TV WEEK Logies again and are excited to take them to Queensland. It is going to be a great show.”
