Spotify Expands Video Podcast Publishing Around The World

Spotify will now let all creators around the world upload video podcasts through Anchor to better rival YouTube’s video podcasting dominance.

Last year, the company started testing video podcasts on a limited basis but, the test has proved popular enough for Spotify to expand the tools to all creators around the world.

Creators can upload their video podcasts — which do not stop people listening in an audio-only way — through the Anchor platform.

Spotify Podcast Subscriptions will be available for video podcasts, letting creators own their monetisation models by creating exclusive content, gating video, and more. The company also said that it is working on more monetisation features to come soon.

There is also a new partnership with remote recording platform Riverside which lets creators record and publish video content for free with a “quick” distribution path to Spotify via Anchor.

Embedded video podcasts will play the video wherever it is embedded — like this:

A video bulk replace will let Anchor creators replace existing audio episodes with video versions. New video-specific analytics will give creators a better insight into how their videos perform. Interactive features, like polls and Q&A will be available for podcasts, as well, letting creators connect with their audiences.
