Sunday TV Wrap: Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s 50th Anniversary Special Scores A ‘10’ With Viewers

Has COVID given us all a bad case of nostalgia? Well, that would appear to be the case after last night’s Hey Hey We’re 50 – the anniversary special for Hey Hey It’s Saturday – pulled a rather impressive 1.224 million for broadcaster Seven.

Ironically, the show was a Nine stable and many questioned Seven’s decision to revive it given a lot of the humour was deemed inappropriate for a 2021 audience.

Still, viewers have voted with their eyeballs and press reports today are calling for the show to even be revived.

Thanks to Daryl, Ossie and co., Seven had an easy Sunday night win according to OzTAM metro numbers. The network snared 35.3 per cent of all of last night’s eyeballs (all channels). Nine was second with 28.1 per cent, 10 took third with 17.7 per cent, the ABC did a neat 13, while SBS could only muster 5.9 per cent.

Seven’s 6pm news bulletin (1.040 million) also took bragging rights over Nine’s (998,000).

The Block proved it’s hardiness, posting 920,000 on a competitive night.

10 debuted Celebrity MasterChef last night and it cooked-up a respectable 620,000 given the calibre of the competition.

Nine’s 60 Minutes had 545,000 and Seven’s Manhunt: The Night Stalker did 558,000.

10’s other standouts were The Sunday Project (353,000), CSI: Vegas (307,000), and 10 News First (238,000).

The ABC’s evening went this way: 7pm news (643,000), Restoration Australia (425,000) and Fires (318,000).
