Commonwealth Games Chiefs To Lift Nine Ban

Channel Nine will have its media accreditation ban to the Commonwealth Games lifted tomorrow.

As reported on B&T yesterday, Nine broke confidentiality agreements when it showed footage of a rehearsal of the opening ceremony on its Sunday evening news bulletins.

The Games start tonight on official broadcaster Channel Seven, while Nine described the leaked footage as an “error”.

Anyone involved in the opening ceremony – be they performers or the media – must first sign a strict non-disclosure agreement.

It’s unclear how Nine managed to get into the stadium in the first place, given that Seven, as the broadcast rights holder, is the only media outlet inside. All other media would be allowed outside official events or in the main press centre.

Commonwealth Games organisers imposed a media accreditation ban on Monday, and a Nine spokesperson has told B&T that it has “received correspondence advising the accreditation will be resumed at 8am Thursday”.
