Aussie TV’s Worst Awards: Karl Stefanovic & Samantha Armytage Again Top The List

Seven’s Sunrise and Nine’s Today spent plenty of time sparring against one another over the course of 2017, but the two breakfast shows can now claim one joint title together – their respective hosts are considered the worst presenters on Aussie telly.

Industry site TV Tonight has released its annual “worst awards” as voted by its readers with Sunrise’s Samantha Armytage and Today’s Karl Stefanovic topping the list for the respective worst female and male on Aussie TV. The unlucky duo also topped the list in 2016.

When it came to “biggest TV blunder of the year”, Nine’s infamous “jacketgate” affair was the clear victor. In second place were the TV shows Yummy Mummies, The Last Resort, Real Housewives of Sydney and Ten’s disastrous Biggest Loser: Transformed.

While the third placed “blunder” went to Seven West Media’s handling of the Tim Worner-Amber Harrison affair fiasco.

Other notable winners in this year’s awards included:

• Seven’s Yummy Mummies was voted worst TV show of the year (with Seven’s Cannonball and Ten’s Cram taking silver and bronze.)

• The long-running Big Bang Theory won for worst international show (with The Good Doctor coming second and Keeping Up with the Kardashians in third spot).

• Karl Stefanovic again defended his title as “most over exposed performer”, beating out Grant Denyer, Eddie McGuire and Peter Helliar for the title.

• Waleed Aly also had a stellar 2017 according to TV Tonight readers, coming third in the “worst male” category and fifth in the “most over exposed”.
