Ten Scores A Doozy With Bachelor As Mike Baird Live Tweets Finale And Social Media Scorns The Ring
The champagne is probably popping around Ten’s offices this morning with OzTam figures in showing The Bachelor finale was the most watched program last night, coupled with the fact NSW Premier Mike Baird hilariously live-tweeted the final rose ceremony and the ring was so hideous social media had a field day.
The preliminary figures show the final decision segment drew the inquisitive eyeballs of 1.482 million, with the rest of the show (the bits where Sam didn’t choose his girl) saw 1.228 million watching.
While it wasn’t enough for Ten to win the night – Seven nabbed top spot with a share of 27. 1 per cent, Nine was second with 25.9 per cent and Ten in third with 25.2 per cent – the endless amount of chatter on Twitter about Bachelor Sam and his new lady love Snezana Markoski.
According to data from social analytics company Meltwater, there were 24,685 conversations on The Bachelor last night, with 23,814 using #TheBachelorAU hashtag. Twitter tells us there’s been around seven million tweet impressions too.

A bad week for the other #TheBachelorAU contestants. First rejected by Sam and then Zoo Weekly closes, crushing all future career prospects.
— Adam Liaw (@adamliaw) September 17, 2015
The finale even got NSW Premier Mike Baird riled up, as he live tweeted the program.
Stuck at home on the couch with man-flu. Daughters have hijacked the TV and are watching The Bachelor. Going to be a loooong night.
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
He seems very sincere for a guy who is two-timing, live on TV. This is only a 30 minute show, right? #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
I thought he’d made his decision when he just kissed one of the girls! My daughters are laughing at me. #TheBachelorAU

It occurs to me that, lately, Gladys has been declining meeting invitations on wed and thurs nights. Coincidence? #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
It must be terrible for those girls. Imagine having every word u say captured, televised, and taken out of context. Oh wait.. #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
My running times are slowing down but they are lightening compared to this process! Just decide mate. #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
Hang on, who’s this second guy?! Not even a rate cut from the RBA could deal with the inflation levels in that hair style. #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
I can’t take any more. Off to bed. Key learning: Cabinet decision making might be a lot simpler with a rose ceremony process. #TheBachelorAU
— Mike Baird (@mikebairdMP) September 17, 2015
I’m taking a long hard look at myself because it’s taken @mikebairdMP live tweeting #TheBachelorAU for me to follow him.

However, arguably what delivered a fierce chatter on social media was the ring Sam presented to Snez. A lot thought it was one of the “fugliest” things they’d ever seen, solidifed by Meltwater’s data where 21.8 per cent of the chatter about the ring was negative, 11.8 per cent was positive and 66.4 per cent were neutral.

SAM THAT RING IS THE WRONG SIZE #TheBachelorAU
— James Mathison (@jamesmathison) September 17, 2015
#TheBachelorAU fans & haters alike, can we all agree that the ring was a monstrosity?
— Katherine Peta ☀ (@petarinabug) September 17, 2015
I hope Sam and Snezana have a better looking future than that shocker of a ring from Zamels #thebachelorau
— Bec Hooper (@bec_hooper) September 17, 2015
Who’s sausage fingers did that ring get sized on? Jason Dunstalls? #TheBachelorAU
— Alistair Clarkson (@clerksonpls) September 17, 2015
That ring was foul #TheBachelorAU

the final date should be having to drive to IKEA without a GPS and then buy something you both like #thebachelorau
— Bec Shaw (@Brocklesnitch) September 17, 2015
The ring and somewhat lacklustre ending, as the other two Bachelor programs had declared their love in exotic locations, prompted Bhakthi Puvanenthiran and Ebony Bowden from The Sydney Morning Herald to delve further into the episode to uncover all the product placements, location issues and ‘that ring’.
