Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph has today been forced to apologise to Australian cricketer David Warner and his new bride Candice Falzon over an article it published in January 31st this year.

The article, which appeared in the paper’s ‘Confidential’ gossip section, was believed to have been entirely fabricated  by News journalists.

The offending piece has subsequently been removed from all of News’ websites this morning.

The apology – which appeared tucked-away on The Daily Telegraph website and in the newspaper itself – read:

On January 31, 2015, The Daily Telegraph published an article in Sydney Confidential about Candice Falzon and David Warner.

The article made allegations that were false and defamatory.

The Daily Telegraph and Sydney Confidential sincerely apologise to Ms Falzon and Mr Warner for the hurt and distress caused by the publication of the article.

Other than the retraction and apology there appeared to be no financial compensation offered to the couple.

Since dating and subsequently marrying Warner, Falzon – a professional iron woman – has been a regular in gossip columns and women’s weekly magazines.

The couple married earlier this month and reportedly sold the photos to Woman’s Day for an estimated $500,000.

Falzon is no stranger to controversy herself, famously being caught on a mobile phone in a tryst with football player Sonny Bill Williams in a Sydney public toilet in 2007.
