Further Details Emerge In The Case Of A Russian Man Suing Apple For Turning Him Gay

The bizarre case of a Russian man suing Apple for allegedly turning him gay has taken another twist, after it was revealed he received 69 of the ‘GayCoin’ instead of the Bitcoin he ordered.

The man is currently seeking one million rubles (A$23,000) in compensation after an app he downloaded to his iPhone apparently turned him into a homosexual.

A Moscow court will today (Thursday local time) hold a preliminary hearing into the case.

The complaint says the man downloaded the “GayCoin” cryptocurrency app from Apple’s App Store, only to receive a transfer of 69 of the GayCoin, rather than an order of the more mainstream cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

“For him, this is a big blow to his reputation, because he doesn’t know how to tell his parents and he knows that he won’t be understood,” his lawyer Sapizhat Gusnieva told AFP.

“We live in Russia after all, so these things are complicated.”

She added that her client had been forced to end a heterosexual relationship as a result of the matter.

Homosexuality was decriminalised in Russia back in 1993, however, its LGBTQI+ community still suffers discrimination and violence from conservative elements in the country.

The complaint also says that the cryptocurrency order cam with a note saying, “Don’t judge until you try.”

“I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships,” the man wrote in the document

“I decided to try single-sex relations. Two months later, I can say that I have got stuck in intimate relations with a representative of my sex and I can’t manage to get back.”
