Man Sues Apple Claiming An iPhone App Turned Him Gay

A Russian man is seeking one million rubles (A$23,000) in compensation after an app he downloaded to his iPhone apparently turned him into a homosexual.

According to media reports, Sapizhat Gusnieva mistakenly downloaded the crypto-currency app called “GayCoin” when he meant to download the all-the-more heterosexual app Bitcoin.

After mistakenly downloading the app, Gusnieva alleges, via court documents, it came with the instructions “Don’t judge until you try”.

In his affidavit, the victim reveals: “I thought, in truth, how can I judge something without trying? I decided to try same-sex relationships.

“Now I have a boyfriend and I do not know how to explain this to my parents.”

The complainant added his “life has been changed for the worse” and he “will never become normal again”.

Apple, Gusnieva argues, “pushed him towards homosexuality through manipulation” and his newfound sexuality has caused him “moral and mental harm”.

Gusnieva argues that Apple “has a responsibility for their programmes” despite the exchange taking place on a third-party app.

Homosexuality was decriminalised in Russia back in 1993, however, its LGBTQI+ community still suffers discrimination and violence from conservative elements in the country.

Gusnieva’s case will go to court on the 17th of October. Apple has not yet responded to the claims.
