Adidas’ New Arsenal Shirts Are Inspired By Seats On The London Tube

Ever caught a train and been so enamoured by the seats you thought that would make a great shirt?

Well, apparently that’s the thinking behind Adidas’ new kit range for English Premier League club Arsenal that’s been modelled on the fabric used on the seats for London’s Underground.

Arsenal are arguably the most “London” of all the EPL clubs and so Adidas has decided to link the city’s other great invention – the Tube – to a new clothing range that will also be worn by Arsenal players during pre-match warm-ups.

Arsenal typically wear its famous red shit, however, Adidas recently switched it to all-white in response to the club’s knife crime initiative. Read B&T’s reporting of that HERE.

The football club are the only EPL team with a train station named after it. Gillespie Road station was renamed Arsenal in 1932 following lobbying by the team’s manager Herbert Chapman who wanted to make it easier for the club’s supporters to identify how to attend matches.

Warren Macdonald, area manager of Arsenal station, said: “Arsenal station has had a deep relationship with the football club for almost 90 years and there is nothing quite like the atmosphere and excitement on a match day.

“I look forward to seeing fans passing through the station wearing this eye-catching new pre-match range on their way to and from the stadium.”
