Zeebox launch beats expectations

Social TV platform Zeebox has “outstripped expectations” by notching up 100,000 downloads in the first two weeks of its release in Australia.

Launched in partnership with Network Ten, Zeebox’s launch Down Under follows successful launches in the US and UK.

The first figures released since the app was launched in November show that the app has been downloaded more than 100,000 times and that the average amount of time a user is spending on the app is 31 minutes. There have been more than 500,000 visits to Zeebox and 110,000 Zeetags clicked.

The current top five shows on Zeebox are Can of Worms, The Project, The X Factor, Homeland and the live cricket coverage.

Users have been interacting with their favourite TV shows via Zeetags and socialising with friends while watching TV.

Zeebox, which was founded in 2011 by BBC iPlayer inventor Anthony Rose, enables users to engage with friends around TV shows, buy what they see on screen, remote control their TV and access additional information about the shows they are watching.

Craig Blair (pictured), CEO of Zeebox Australia, said: “It’s early days, but the results so far have far outstripped our expectations. The number of downloads in Australia is many multiples higher than in the UK or the US – adjusted for the population – proving that Australians actively embrace new, world class platforms.

“More important than downloads is viewer engagement. Our average viewer is spending over half-an-hour a visit engaged with Zeebox. We look forward to increasing our audience engagement as we roll out new channels and features over the coming months.”
