Aussie Women Take Over Hollywood At The Golden Globes

Who could possibly put legendary heartthrob Ryan Gosling in a corner? it could only be national treasure, Margot Robbie.

Robbie, who once upon a time starred in Neighbours, is arguably the hottest actress in the world right now. A position which she cemented yesterday when she collected an award for Barbie at The Golden Globes.

In Australia, The Golden Globes were streamed exclusively on Stan.

“We would like to dedicate this to everyone who dressed up and went to the greatest place on earth, the movie theatres,” Robbie said in the acceptance speech for the cinematic and box office achievement award.

The awards is new one, added to celebrate the movie with the biggest box office success. Barbie, which picked up $2.1 billion in ticket sales, fought off competition from Taylor Swift to win the award.

She was far from the only Australian women to win big at the star-studded award ceremony, however with both Sarah Snook (Succession) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown) picking up awards.

“This show has changed my life,” Snook, 36, said in her acceptance speech for best actress in a drama TV series. “Everybody in it was amazing. The cast, the crew were fantastic. This was a team effort. It was always a team and that’s what made this show an amazing thing to be a part of.”

Debicki, 33, who played Princess Diana in landmark Netflix series The Crown gave a shoutout to her Aussie family who she hoped were watching the awards at home.

“Thank you to the creatives of the show for trusting me with this part, to our cast and crew, to my beautiful pretend children, who I just adore.” She also thanked her family who are “in Australia, hopefully in their pyjamas, watching this”.

Overall Oppenheimer was the big winner of the night. The Christopher Nolan film picked up best drama motion picture and Cillian Murphy picking up the gong for best actor in a drama motion picture.

Robert Downy Jr, meanwhile, picked up the award for best supporting actor in a motion picture. Nolan picked up the award for director and the film was also recognised for its soundtrack.

Last year was a huge year for cinema in which Universal managed to takeover long reigning champion Disney in terms of box office sales.
